Chamber Sponsors Trip to Washington, DC
A delegation of North Iowa business leaders is heading to Washington D-C this coming weekend. The group of Mason City and Clear Lake officials will leave Sunday for a four-day trip to gain support for issues affecting the North Iowa business climate. This is the sixth year the Mason City Area Chamber of Commerce has organized a trip to the nation’s capitol to meet with Iowa congressmen. This is the first time that representatives from Cerro Gordo County, Clear Lake, and Mason City have made the trip together to work on issues as a region.
Mason City Chamber President Robin Edgar will lead the delegation that includes Executive Director Robin Anderson representing the Mason City chamber; President-Elect Denni Sue Erickson and Board Member Casey Callanan from the Clear Lake chamber; Mayor Roger Bang and Administrator Brent Trout from the City of Mason City; Mayor Nelson Crabb, Administrator Scott Flory, and C.L.E.A.R. Project Coordinator David Knoll from the City of Clear Lake; County Supervisor Bob Amosson; Airport Commissioner Dennis Lewerke and Airport Manager Pam Osgood; Board Member Jim Morrow and Interim Director Angie Determan representing the North Central Iowa Growth Partnership; and Lois Clark, field representative for Congressman Tom Latham.
The purpose of the trip will be to provide and seek information on the following issues:
· Transportation (including key airport issues and Mason City’s Delaware Avenue bridge)
· Renewable Energy opportunities
· Workforce Issues
· Improvements to Mason City’s water treatment plant
· Clear Lake water quality
In addition to meetings with Senator Grassley, Senator Harkin, Congressman Latham, and congressional aides, the group plans to meet directly with federal agency representatives to discuss these issues in-depth.
