MINNESOTA POLL-PRESIDENTIAL RACE Minn. Poll: Presidential Race tightening in state (Information in the following story is from: Star Tribune, http://www.startribune.com) MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – With Election Day over a week away, a new Star Tribune Minnesota Poll shows the presidential race is tightening in the state. The poll published yesterday in the Star Tribune says President Barack Obama holds a 3-point lead over Republican Mitt Romney. The lead is within the poll’s margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points. The poll shows Obama has support from 47 percent of likely voters, while Romney has support from 44 percent. A Minnesota Poll last month showed Obama had an 8-percentage point advantage. Since then, Romney has gained more support from women and from undecided voters. Meanwhile, more independent voters have leaned toward Obama in the last month. The poll surveyed 800 likely Minnesota voters by phone between October 23rd and October 25th. No Republican presidential candidate has won Minnesota since 1972.

The Star Tribune reported Sunday that 48 percent of likely Minnesota voters support the amendment that would define marriage as between one man and one woman, while 47 percent of Minnesotans oppose the change. Five percent are undecided. Those in favor are short of the 50 percent needed to change the state Constitution. A September Minnesota Poll had similar results. The poll was conducted among 800 likely voters who were contacted by cellphone and land line from October 23rd to October 25th. It has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

(AP) – A Minnesota State, Mankato, football coach facing child pornography counts is trying to get the charges dismissed. Todd Hoffner’s attorney filed a request for dismissal in advance of a Wednesday hearing in Blue Earth County. Hoffner was put on paid leave in August and charged with felonies after videos of his children were found on a university-issued cellphone. Prosecutors say the videos show the children dancing naked and touching themselves. Attorney Jim Fleming says the videos are not child pornography. He and Hoffner’s wife have called them innocent family moments. Fleming already asked prosecutors to drop the charges, after officers found no child pornography on Hoffner’s computers and county officials found no evidence of sexual abuse. Hoffner has been volunteering with youth football.
