DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Iowa voters are choosing their congressional representatives in four newly drawn districts today. Former Iowa first lady Christie Vilsack is vying to become the state’s first female U.S. House member by unseating Republican Steve King in northwestern Iowa. In the Des Moines area, nine-term Republican Representative Tom Latham is running against eight-term Democratic Representative Leonard Boswell.

CHARLES CITY, Iowa (AP) – A man accused of killing an Iowa girl in 2005 is getting a new attorney. A judge yesterday ordered that Casey Frederiksen be represented by the Waterloo public defender’s office due to a conflict of interest by the Mason City public defender’s office. The change also caused Frederiksen’s arraignment to be delayed until November 19th.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) – A former Newton doctor has been charged with 114 counts of health care fraud and unlawfully disseminating controlled substances after a lengthy investigation. Lafayette Twyner pleaded not guilty yesterday in federal court in Des Moines. Investigators raided the Newton clinic where Twyner practiced in April 2011.

Social conservatives who are angered by that ruling helped defeat three of his colleagues two years ago.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Iowa’s State Appeal Board has signed off on an agreement to pay $1.2 million to a Waverly couple who were injured in a northeast Iowa collision with a state trooper. The two were seriously injured in the April accident that took place after the trooper ran a stop sign.
