FC Council applies for housing rehab grant
THE CITY OF FOREST CITY IS APPLYING FOR ANOTHER NIACOG HOUSING REHAB GRANT TO HELP GIVE EIGHT HOMES IN FOREST CITY SOME ENERGY EFFICIENT IMPROVEMENTS. FOREST CITY MAYOR RICK SKJEIE EXPLAINED THE GRANT AT MONDAY’S CITY COUNCIL MEETING.

THE CITY OF FOREST CITY APPLIES FOR THE GRANT ABOUT EVERY OTHER YEAR. THE APPLICATION WILL PROVIDE REHABILITATION MONEY TO EIGHT HOMES NORTH OF O STREET. OUT OF A POSSIBLE 116 HOUSES IN THE AREA, 22 RESIDENTS RETURNED THE SURVEY. TO BE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE THE GRANT, THE RESIDENTS MUST MEET CERTAIN INCOME GUIDELINES, OWN THEIR HOME, AND REMAIN IN THEIR HOME FOR 5 YEARS AFTER THE IMPROVEMENTS ARE FINISHED.
THE CITY HAS ALREADY CONTRIBUTED A COMBINED TOTAL OF $1.1 MILLION IN GRANT MONEY TO 42 PROPERTY OWNERS IN FOREST CITY. FOR THIS YEAR’S PROJECT, A GRANT WORTH $296,920 IS BEING REQUESTED WITH A LOCAL MATCH OF $18,000. IF APPROVED, THE CITY EXPECTS TO HEAR BACK SOMETIME AROUND MARCH OF 2013.
THE CITY OF FOREST CITY IS ALSO MOVING IN THE DIRECTION OF IMPLEMENTING PARKING PERMITS AROUND THE WALDORF COLLEGE CAMPUS. MAYOR SKJEIE EXPLAINS.
